Smart Fire-Safe Buildings – Using building sensors to improve fire protection.

Smart Fire-Safe Buildings – Using building sensors to improve fire protection.

In today’s building landscape, what is called “smart buildings” is something that has become increasingly common. The definition varies somewhat, but in most cases it is about buildings being constructed with technology that monitors the building in various ways with the aim of increasing the building’s performance in terms of comfort, sustainability, energy efficiency, etc. Today, various sensors are common and different types are installed in most new buildings. In many cases, however, there is potential to utilize these sensors to improve the building’s fire protection in one way or another. This could, for example, involve using temperature sensors to identify a fire and/or using CO2 sensors to identify whether there may be people left in different areas of a building.
