Crowd safety: prototyping for the future
Demographic changes in the population of several countries call into question the current basis for evacuation sizing, as design values are often based on experiments from the late 20th century. Therefore, a new strategy has been developed describing how people’s movements in an evacuation should be described. The starting point is to determine person flows from the body’s mechanics and movements. Various experimental methods for investigating the movement of persons have been evaluated and a demarcation of future research in the field is presented.
